To improve a GEO score, make sure AI search crawlers can reach the page, declare who you are with Organization schema and sameAs links, show a named author and update date, and back claims with specific facts and sources. These are the signals generative engines use to decide whether a source is safe to cite.
1. Let AI in (weight 9)
Allow OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot, Googlebot and Bingbot in robots.txt. Blocking training bots such as GPTBot does not affect search citations.
2. Declare your entity (8 + 6)
Add Organization (or Person) JSON-LD with name, url and logo, and sameAs links to LinkedIn, Wikipedia or Wikidata, Crunchbase and social profiles. State in plain text who you are, what you offer, for whom and where; the report's "entity AI detected" panel shows what AI currently understands.
3. Show trust (7 + 6 + 6)
- Author: a named author or reviewer with relevant expertise.
- Freshness: a visible updated date and dateModified in schema.
- Sources: links to official docs, research or government sites for key claims.
4. Add substance (8 + 7)
Generative engines prefer specific, complete sources. Aim for three or more facts per 100 words and cover the topic fully, around 1,000+ useful words on core pages.
5. Small extras
Link to About and Contact pages and publish an llms.txt file. Both carry small weights but help AI understand your site.
